French startup NAVX, providers of real-time retail fuel pricing, parking and electric vehicle charging location data have been acquired by Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), a global provider of oil industry pricing it was announced at the end of March. The value of the deal was not made public.
Founded in 2006 by Florent Boutellier and Jean Cherbonnier, NAVX are a data as service provider offering near real-time data to end-users including BMW, Audi, Toyota, Renault, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Mazda, Nissan and Daimler.
The deal will provide significant value to both companies combining OPIS’s knowledge of US fuel pricing with NAVX’s extensive data on pricing from 30 countries in Europe plus Mexico and Brazil. Following on from OPIS’s 2013 acquisition of US-based startup gasbuddy.com, the organisation is able now to position itself as one of the most comprehensive global providers of this type of information in the industry.

NAVX is currently headquartered in Paris, but have based most of their 16 employees in Romania. However, the team will likely expand as Cherbonnier has revealed that they have their sights on expansion into Asia.
Both Cherbonnier and NAVX COO – Co-Founder Florent Boutellier will stay with OPIS to manage and grow the newly created OPIS-NAVX brand.
OPIS, a subsidiary of UCG, a leading source for worldwide petroleum pricing and news information. OPIS publishes daily spot prices for all refined products, more than 30,000 wholesale gasoline and diesel rack prices and more than 130,000 retail fuel prices . Its subsidiary, Axxis Software also provides software solutions for petroleum marketers looking to automate price collection, data storage and repricing of dealer and commercial accounts. OPIS also owns PointLogic Energy, a provider of oil and gas supply, transportation and demand data and analysis with a special emphasis from the wellhead to end-use.
