Ford has announced a collaboration with Pivotal, a cloud-based software technology company, to develop a new software platform that will support FordPass.
FordPass is a free platform which offers its members benefits which include:
- Marketplace – includes mobility services like parking and sharing;
- FordGuides – helps consumers move more efficiently;
- Appreciation – where members are recognized for their loyalty;
- FordHubs – where consumers experience latest Ford innovations.
The collaboration with Pivotal will provide Ford with new software development methodologies, the next generation cloud platform and analytics. It will also gain access to teams of IT engineers for consistent innovations that provide new consumer experiences for FordPass.
The collaboration has already led to the development of Dynamic Shuttle, which features a smart ride-hailing technology allowing Ford employees at its Dearborn campus to call for point-to-point rides on demand.
“With FordPass, we are making it easier for consumers, whether they own a Ford vehicle or not, to get where they need to go,” said Elena Ford, vice president, Global Dealer and Consumer Experience. “Working with Pivotal, Ford will be able to rapidly add new features and adapt mobility solutions and services that benefit FordPass members in the ways that fit them best.”
Pilots from on-demand shuttles to car-sharing services are just some of the applications of FordPass. It can also seamlessly integrate with the smartphone app built on Pivotal Cloud Foundry – one of the most powerful continuous-innovation cloud platforms.
