Zubie has added to its suite of business fleet tracking, analytics and management capabilities with the new “Zubie Maintenance” option. This automated ongoing maintenance solution for business fleets tracks essential service needs — oil changes, tire rotation, brakes servicing and so on, sending sends reminders when they are due. These new features have the potential to help owners save money and increase the bottom line.
Tim Kelly, CEO of Zubie, said of the new service that:
“Most fleet management solutions in the market are geared toward large fleets and consist of complex and costly systems that don’t meet the needs of owners of smaller fleets. Zubie’s mission is to offer valuable fleet tracking, analytics and management capabilities to the small- to mid-sized fleet sector at a fraction of the price of legacy solutions. Our new maintenance features are included in the Zubie service plan and consequently offer a simple-to-use, cost-effective alternative to other systems.”
Zubie uses a dongle device that plugs directly into any vehicle’s On-board Diagnostics (OBD) port, allowing the fleet owner to access valuable vehicle and driving data — location tracking, driving patterns and activity, vehicle health and alerts, and more. All this is provided via an always-on cellular connection included within the device and service, so business owners are always in the know about their vehicles and drivers, without having to rely on solutions like Bluetooth and phone-pairing.
Zubie Maintenance claims to optimize data to add a level of proactive and preventive care that can help keep drivers safer, reduce fuel costs, and extend the life of a vehicle by ensuring that service needs are met at the right time. The solution can help customize service schedules for each vehicle, and set flags when the service is done. A service diary automatically tracks all maintenance in case it’s needed for reference, or when selling the vehicle. All reports and information are easily accessible from the Zubie portal or app on any smartphone or PC.
Additionally, through its integration with fleet maintenance leader Fleetio, Zubie enables Fleetio customers to quickly and easily access location data. Users can see a vehicle’s current location and driving status on the vehicle profile page within Fleetio, and easily navigate to the Zubie map view or device view for a particular vehicle directly from the vehicle profile in Fleetio.
Many of you have told the Carnectiv editorial team that you reckon the “dongle market” is getting very “samey” with loads of providers offering an OBD dongle with the same types of boring, nerdy features with a superficial layer of lip service to “grown up” services. Many of you question whether any of these dongle-related services are compelling enough. Security is also a much-mentioned concern. We still believe there is potential here, but are yet to be impressed by many of the offerings. Zubie has been impressively visible. We like their PR “pitch” too. Let’s see if they can differentiate from the plethora of highly similar alternatives out there. Carnectiv knows that the OEMs don’t, as a rule, like the “donglers” that much…and suspect that they will actively pursue strategies to pre-empt the donglers chances of “getting the OBD port”. What if OEMs were to give away “their own” dongles for free, installed as a courtesy at your next service?
